Check out Michael's feature on Pete Seeger's iconic banjo and 12-string guitar in the Fall 2009 issue of Fretboard Journal magazine.

In addition to his occasional solo dates, Michael is busy, busy, busy playing old-time, good-time stuff with Ramblin Jug Stompers and Lost Radio Rounders. He plays mandolin, jug, dobro, ukulele, tenor guitar, resonator guitar, jaw harp and the kitchen sink.

July 1978. Newly 14, wet behind the ears, "Because the Night'' roaring out of summer radios. "Horses" in the house, spinning black, "the boy looked at Johnny...," and so on. The 27th finally came, the holy hour, Patti Smith at the Palace Theatre. Rock as church. Patti once said, "my belief in rock'n'roll gave me a kind of strength that other religions couldn't come close to." I knew what she meant that night. She changed my life, I became a disciple. Forever. PHOTOGRAPHY 518.469.2941
April 2005. Just days before my 41st year. The 16th, in a church, Emanuel Baptist. St. Patti and I spend the afternoon rehearsing, laughing, performing. Every moment spent alone in my room, guitar in hand -- redeemed. I am high on rebellion..."i've broken through and I'm free and could dig into eternity riding the wave and the realm of the E." We play, we sing. We offer "People Have the Power" as a prayer. It is one of the rawest, purest moments of my life. Forever. PHOTOGRAPHY 518.469.2941

"In art and dream may you proceed with abandon. In life may you proceed with balance and stealth."
